The grand opening of the $130-million Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort entertainment centre is set to be a spectacular event with the venue announcing its plans for the debut of the facility in April 2022.
This news has been a long time coming for some as the opening of the entertainment centre has been delayed due to the global pandemic that affected the plans of many enterprises in 2020. While the casino itself has been open for some time, resumption of live shows only happened recently with the casino reopening its 1 500-seater Avalon Theatre for its annual Christmas show.
April Anticipation
The President of Niagara Casinos, Richard Taylor, revealed in an interview that the planned opening of the new centre is on schedule. He stated that the casino intends to splash out on the opening event to introduce the new area to visitors. He was, however, cagey with any specific details, saying that the uncertainty caused by COVID-19 makes deciding on specific dates challenging.
The company’s public schedule appears to be a bit more forthcoming, revealing that the first planned show at the venue will feature singer Joey Yung. The Cantopop star is scheduled to perform on April 24, 2021. On May 5, the arena will be filled with laughter as comedian Larry the Cable Guy spins hilarious stories, followed by the classic rock stylings of iconic bands ZZ Top and Cheap Trick. The rest of the year’s roster is jam-packed with premium entertainment with appearances by Paul Anka, comedian Iliza Shlesinger, REO Speedwagon, and Zucchero.
The President explained that the ground opening would not take place before Joey Yung’s performance, but that the company would rather be hosting smaller shows. He said that the staff and equipment would be put through their paces with some softer shows, before launching into the main event of the opening ceremony.
Storming Q4
Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, the company, which owns both Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara and Resort, revealed its Q4 results for 2021, recording US$391.2 million in net revenue. This represents a 33.1% increase over the previous year’s takings of US$294 million.
Carol Anderson, the company’s CFO shared his thoughts on the financial results, saying that they display the company’s impressive recovery from the lockdown casino closures of March 2020 and that since the casino reopened, fiscal performance has improved significantly. Casino Niagara and Resort recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and has entertained over 100 million in its quarter-century history.
