I teamed up with Play’n GO’s resident rugged adventurer, Rich Wilde, in the developer’s Egyptian-themed Boof of Dead. The reels are housed in what looks like an ancient temple, which sets the scene perfectly for Rich Wilde’s treasure-hunting adventure. He appears as a symbol alongside Egyptian Gods and artifacts in this title. Check out Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness if you want to see him face off against ancient cosmic horrors. Book of Dead has a lucrative bonus round with special symbol effects to help you win the top prize of 5,000x your bet.

Book of Dead is a straightforward game, with few bonus features or special controls. The one bonus feature it offers is fun but very simple, so it’s not hard to get started. While it may have been released in 2016, Book of Dead remains one of the most popular slots ever. Here’s how you can enjoy this brilliant game:
This game is super easy to play. The controls below the reels let you spin, use Autoplay, change your bet, and view the paytable. The controls are reminiscent of classic slots but are still very easy to use.
For players who have not played older slot games, the betting system may seem intimidating initially because you can choose the number of coins, coin values and the number of lines to adjust your bet. You get used to these controls pretty quickly, so they are not an obstacle to enjoying the game.
There are ten symbols in the game, including five low pays, four high pays and the bonus scatter. At the bottom of the paytable, the 10, J, and Q symbols pay 10x your stake for five on a payline, while K and A pay up to 15x. You need at least three low-paying symbols on a line for a win.
The premium symbols offer bigger potential payouts. Horus and Anubis pay 75x your bet for five on a payline, Osiris pays 200x, and Rich Wilde pays 500x. These symbols can award payouts for just two on a line. The high-paying symbols are a great feature in the game, meaning every spin can lead to big wins, even outside of the free spins round.
Last, the golden Book of Dead is the scatter symbol and wild. This can show up anywhere on the reels and not only awards a payout but can also trigger the free spins. Five on a line will award the free spins round and a payout of 20x your bet.
Book of Dead uses a standard reel format with five reels, three rows and ten paylines. To land a win, you must match symbols along one of the paylines from left to right. While you’ll need at least three low-paying symbols on a line, the premium symbols award a win from just two on a line.
You can also benefit from the wild symbols, which substitute for other symbols. These special symbols are the key to triggering the bonus round, too, potentially leading to big wins with the expanding symbols.
Book of Dead is hardly bursting with bonus features compared to some modern slots. However, the features it does have are excellently designed to make the experience so much more enjoyable. Play’n GO did well to get the balance right, and that’s why the game has been so successful for so many years. Here are the features you can expect when you play this video slot.
1. WildsThe book symbol doubles as a wild, standing in for any other symbols and paying 20x your stake if you land five on a payline. If you're lucky, it will help you form winning lines whenever it lands, potentially leading to big payouts.
2. Free SpinsAs in other online slots, Book of Dead free spins are unlocked through the scatter symbol. Landing three book symbols anywhere on the reels will trigger the bonus round. No matter how many scatters appear on the reels on a single spin, you’ll get ten free spins at the start of the bonus round.
Before you get your ten free spins, the game will select one symbol to be the special expanding symbol. This is chosen randomly, but you’ll be hoping for one of the high-paying symbols for the best chance of hitting significant wins. If this symbol forms part of a winning combo, all instances in view will expand to cover the entire reel that they are on. If you’re lucky, this could cover all the reels, leading to some hugely impressive wins, especially if you have Rich Wilde as the expanding symbol.
3. Gamble FeatureWhen you land a winning spin in the base game, you can use the Gamble feature to put your prize on the line by guessing whether a face-down card is red or black or what suit it holds. If you think right, you will double or quadruple your winnings, and you can keep thinking about how to build up your prize, but if you guess wrong, you will lose everything.
You don’t have to use the gamble feature, and it’s entirely up to you whether you choose to gamble or collect your win. When gambling, always do so responsibly and recognize that it’s just as easy to lose as it is to win. This feature is more likely to be found in older games, but it still pops up in newer slots like Burning Sun.
While playing the Book of Dead slot, you could win up to 5,000 your bet on a single spin. This may not be the most significant possible maximum win compared to other highly volatile slots, but it’s still much higher than the average for non-jackpot games. Your best chance of hitting the max win is during the free spins round.
Book of Dead’s RTP sits at 96.21%, above the industry average of 96%. While this may indicate a statistically higher percentage of return on your bets, it is a figure based on a long-term average, so it may not have much effect on your play session. The game’s high volatility means that wins land less frequently, but when they do, they will typically be higher.
The RTP rate is lower than some other popular slots, but you shouldn’t let that put you off. The theoretical figure tells you the average return rate when playing over a very long period. Playing for shorter sessions, you could win back more or less, depending on your luck. The volatility is a significant factor in the game’s popularity, with the potential for huge wins on every spin.
While it came out in 2016, the Book of Dead still holds up today. That’s partly thanks to the impressive visuals, colourful graphics and crisp animations. The theme of Ancient Egyptian tomb exploration is hardly new in the slot industry, but Play’n GO did very well to give it a fresh coat of paint and the backdrop, reels and symbols all look great.
The sound and music of slot are pretty simple. There’s a bit of background music to set the tone, and the reels make a traditional slot machine sound as they spin and award wins. The game's atmosphere is good, although many slot players might be sick of the theme.

Book of Dead was inspired by Book of Ra, but since its release it’s inspired many other slots. Play‘n GO and several other slot providers have released games with similar bonus features and themes. How do these slots compare to Book of Dead? Let’s find out.
Book of the Dead is a familiar title. Knowing about its success, I came into it with a few expectations. I started out betting with a modest two-credit bet; after about ten spins and only winning 25 coins back( which isn’t great, seeing that the coin value was set to 0.20), I decided to go for a more significant win and hit the gamble feature. I wasn’t successful… I increased the bet to 6. Still, the winnings were trickling in; I hit the gamble feature and got lucky by selecting diamonds, tripling my winnings. Another win, another successful gamble on spades. Things were looking up; I gambled again, betting on red, then again on black. I was on a run and getting into a profit. This was short-lived, as I started to bet without getting lucky on the gamble feature or hitting free spins.
Results:Some notable takeaways from this game: There is a reason why Book of The Dead is so famous. The gameplay is interactive and rewarding. Even when you don’t win, it's a blast to play. The gamble feature is a perfect way to risk it all for big winnings if you get lucky enough!
Have you ever wanted to explore lost tombs and uncover hidden treasures? Play’n GO tapped into the adventurous spirit in all of us to create the hugely successful Book of Dead. This slot is widely regarded as one of Play’n GO’s best titles ever because it matches simple gameplay with powerful features and appealing graphics.
Egyptian-themed slots had been around for a while before this title was released, but its crisp and vivid visuals make it stand out to this day. If you get Rich Wilde as the expanding symbol for the bonus round, then you’re in line to take home the game’s top prize of 5,000x your bet.
