Doctor Love has a simple design and just a few buttons to interact with on screen. The spin button is on the right-hand side of the reels. Press this to play the game manually, one spin at a time.
But if you prefer to use automated spins instead, press the settings button at the top of the screen to open the game menu. Click on the tab featuring the ‘play’ symbol to open the wagering menu, then use the slider bar to program up to 100 automated spins.
In the game menu, click on the ‘i’ tab to browse the paytable: this lists all the symbols, payouts, and information on the bonus round. Press the tab featuring four casino chips or the chip icon attached to the spin button to access the stake setup screen. Press the speaker icon in the game menu to turn the sound on or off.
Doctor Love features 12 symbols, all relevant to the theme — there are no generic royals here.
At the bottom of the paytable are a cup of heart-shaped candies and the stethoscope. Both pay up to 100x your bet. Land the crutches or patient chart on a payline to win up to 150x your stake.
The fob watch and flowers are worth up to 200x your bet, while the teddy bear and ambulance pay up to 400x your bet. Payouts increase with the patient symbol, which awards a top prize of 750x your stake.
Higher up the paytable, though, the red-haired nurse offers as much as 1,500x your bet for a winning combination. But Doctor Love is the top-paying symbol: get five on a payline to win 5,000x your bet.
The love meter is the Scatter symbol, paying just 100x your stake for 5.
Most symbols in Doctor Love award cash prizes for three to five on a payline, but the patient, nurse, and Scatter payout for two or more. Doctor Love, though, awards prizes for one to five on a payline instead. As Doctor Love is the Wild symbol, it can substitute for all other symbols except the Scatter.
Three or more Scatter symbols anywhere will trigger the Free Games round. You’ll win 10, 15, or 20 free spins for 3, 4, or 5 Scatters, respectively.
The highlight of the Free Games feature is that all prizes are tripled for the whole round — that could give you much bigger payoutsthan the base game. You can retrigger the feature if you land another three or more Scatters, so you could keep playing for tripled wins for some time.
Doctor Love’s max win is 5,000x your bet. To claim this payout, you must land five Doctor Love symbols on a payline. There are bigger payouts available in other slots, but for a simple medium volatility game released way back in 2011, it’s a pretty good top prize.
The theoretical Return to Player (RTP) for Doctor Love could be better. At 95.04%, it’s lower than the industry average of 96%, meaning it should pay out $95.04 for each $100 staked. However, the RTP only indicates the possible return rather than a guarantee.
Doctor Love can award prizes regularly because the volatility is in the medium range. When I tested the game, payouts were pretty frequent, but most were on the small side (often between $0.40 and $4.00).
Doctor Love looks its age in some ways, but its graphics are still fun and vibrant, and it has some nice animations. The background is an abstract purple pattern with a slightly psychedelic style, but it switches to a messy yellow design when the Free Games feature starts.
The stark white reels and colourful symbols stand out from the background brilliantly. The symbols are cartoonish, especially Doctor Love, the nurse, and the ambulance. One great visual touch sees Doctor Love flick his hair and raise his eyebrows at you whenever he features in a winning combination.
Doctor Love’s audio is less impressive, unfortunately. A basic electronic sound accompanies each reel spin, which you’ll probably recognize from many other older slots, and a quick musical tune plays whenever you win.
If you want to learn how Doctor Love works before you wager real money on it, you can play it for free with our demo. We recommend testing the base game and Free Games feature (if you can trigger it) to better understand Doctor Love’s overall quality. By playing the demo first, you can determine if you enjoy Doctor Love enough to play it with real money — completely risk-free.
If you enjoy the romantic element of Doctor Love, you can find other slots on the market with a similar theme. However, not all of them take the same humorous approach. Some are darker and more mysterious, featuring vampires and secret assignations. The bonuses and prizes on offer vary wildly, too. Let’s compare Doctor Love with three other romance-themed slots like Immortal Romance, Secret Romance and Dr.Lovemore to see what else you can find.
Doctor Love is easy to recommend, but there are some negative points to remember.
One issue is the below-average RTP, showing a theoretical return of just 95.04%. It’s a shame that Doctor Love has just one bonus feature, too, but the Free Games round is still the major highlight.
If you can trigger the Free Games, you’ll play with all prizes tripled until the bonus ends. You can retrigger it to win as many as 20 free chances.
Another highlight is thevibrant graphics and tongue-in-cheek style, which help Doctor Love stand out from other simple slots with less personality. The max win is pretty good at 5,000 your bet, even though you can play for much bigger prizes in different games.
