In Gorilla Kingdom, the playing area has five reels and four rows with 1,024 ways to win. Here’s how to get started:
NetEnt knows a thing or two about crafting user-friendly slots, so I wasn’t surprised to see Gorilla Kingdom’s easy controls. All the buttons you need to play are lined up neatly below the reels, including the Spin button, Autoplay button, and Fast Play button.
You can also tap the ‘i’ icon to check out the paytable between spins and press the stack of casino chips to open the bet setup menu.
Gorilla Kingdom has five animal symbols: six royals, a Scatter, and a gorilla mask symbol that can transform others. There’s no Wild symbol.
The 9 and 10 symbols are right at the bottom of the paytable, as they offer just 1x your bet for 5. The J and Q pay 1.20x for 5, though, and the K and A award 1.50x your bet.
The pangolin and okapi both pay 2.50x for 5. Five hornbill or jaguar symbols will award 3x your stake. But the top-paying animal is the gorilla, worth 4x your bet for 5 (that’s a small payout for the highest symbol, though).
If you manage to land three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, you’ll win a prize. Winning combinations run from left to right, starting at reel 1.
Gorilla Kingdom only has one bonus feature: a Free Spins round. But there’s more to it than you might expect.
Get three or more Scatters in the base game to trigger the Free Spins feature. You’ll win 10, 15, or 20 free spins for 3, 4, or 5 Scatters, respectively. But you’ll also get extra free spins when Scatters land during the feature: 2 - 5 Scatters award 3 - 10 more spins.
In the Free Spins feature, the gorilla symbol can appear as a gorilla mask at random. It rolls off the grid and leaves a standard gorilla symbol behind, then fills a slot on the animal panel to the right of the reels.
The animal panel shows the different creature symbols in a vertical pattern. Each time you fill all six slots on the panel with gorilla symbols, all instances of a specific animal symbol turn into gorillas.
This begins with the leopard symbol and moves down through the paytable — you’ll need 24 gorilla masks to transform pangolins into gorillas.
Gorilla Kingdom can award a top payout of 2,857x your bet.
Gorilla Kingdom’s theoretical RTP is around average at 96.03%. As the volatility is in the medium range, I won regularly, but the payouts were generally small.
Gorilla Kingdom has all the polish I expect of a NetEnt game. The jungle setting is colourful and nicely animated (especially the rushing waterfall). Each animal symbol features realistic details, and it’s easy to tell them apart. Gorilla Kingdom’s audio is just as impressive as the visuals, with a rhythmic drumbeat and a mysterious feel.

If you like the look of Gorilla Kingdom, what other animal-themed slots can you play online?
One option is Wolf Howl, which offers an incredible top prize of 25,000x your bet and a Free Spins feature.
Ape Rulez is another slot you might want to try. Play for up to 12,000x your stake and trigger multiple bonuses.
For more ape-tastic fun, how about Gorilla Mayhem? Pragmatic Play’s slot offers up to 5,000x your bet and various bonus features.
I had a decent time with Gorilla Kingdom, but there are a few issues to keep in mind before you play it. The biggest is the max win: at less than 3,000x your bet, it’s pretty small (even for a medium-volatility slot). The RTP is around average, too, which means possible returns on Gorilla Kingdom might not amount to much in the long run.
There’s only one bonus feature to unlock, but at least it has a good amount of depth. Collecting gorilla masks and filling the animal panels made for a bigger bonus round than I expected.
As always, I recommend that you try the free demo before you dive into the full game.
