Rat King has six reels, six rows, and a Pay Anywhere system. It has a design similar to that of some other Push Gaming slots, such as Jaguar Drop and Goat Getter. To start playing Rat King, follow these simple steps:
I’ve played various other slots released by Push Gaming, so Rat King’s interface and controls felt familiar. The buttons are on the right-hand side of the grid, with the ‘spin’ button at the bottom. Press this to spin the reels once, or use the ‘autoplay’ button to program up to 1,000 automated spins instead.
Push the ‘bet’ button to set your stake, and press the star icon to access the Bonus Buy menu. The ‘menu’ button at the top of the screen opens the paytable, which is worth checking before you play.
There are just six paying symbols in Rat King, including a macaron, donut, and cake. With their retro design, they look like health pick-ups you might find in a video game from the 1990s.
The macaron, donut, and ice cream pay 7.50x, 10x, and 12.50x your bet for 20+ on the grid, respectively. The pudding pays much more at 25x your stake for 20+, while the cake awards up to 37.50x your bet. Finally, the red pudding offers a top prize of 50x your stake.
Dud symbols are gray and have no value. Non-paying symbols include the Star and Rat King. I’ll cover these below.
Land seven or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid to win. If you match seven or more dud symbols, all dud symbols will be removed to create space on the reels.
Rat King includes four bonus features:
After you create a winning combination, all winning symbols vanish, and others drop in to fill the gaps on the grid. The cascades can trigger new matches and award multiple wins in a single spin.
Collection Boxes sit at the bottom of the grid. Each Star symbol is collected in the Collection Boxes whenever they appear in the bottommost spot on the grid, and all Star symbols have a multiplier. These will be added to the total multiplier for the current round.
Possible Star multiplier values are: 2x, 3x, 5x, 7x, 10x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, and 500x. Multiple Star symbols can be collected, and their multipliers will be added together.
If a Rat King symbol lands in the bottommost spot, it will be collected. An increment will be added to the Free Spins meter for each Rat King symbol collected in the current game round.
Collect 3, 4, or 5 Rat King symbols in the same game round to win 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. However, the Free Spins meter will reset at the end of each round.
Three extra free spins are awarded for each Rat King symbol collected during the feature. The multipliers of collected Star symbolsare added to the multiplier counter, and then the overall win for the current spin is multiplied. The multiplier counter will not reset during the feature.
You can pay 100x, 250x, or 500x your bet to trigger the Free Spins feature with 3, 4, or 5 Rat King Scatters, respectively.
The biggest payout on offer in Rat King is 10,000x your bet.
The Return to Player (RTP) for Rat King is 96.30%, which is higher than the 96% average for slots. Medium volatility means that payouts can come pretty often, but they tend to be small. I won frequently when I tested Rat King, and my prizes were usually between $0.50 and $3.00 on a $1.00 bet.
Rat King’s retro-style graphics and animation capture the aesthetic of classic video games nicely. The background might be alittle dark and lacking in colour, but the symbols add more vibrance (apart from the duds). The music and sound effects fit the retro approach well, too.

Rat King is packed with sweet treats, and you can find plenty of other slots in the same vein. Sweet Bonanza 1000 is a great example: it’s a revamped version of the original slot with up to 25,000x your stake.
Another slot for players with a sweet tooth is Sweet Powernudge. This includes Pragmatic Play’s Powernudge feature and awards prizes of up to 5,000x your bet.
Finally, Sugar Parade offers smaller payouts of up to 1,658x your bet, but it includes a Bonus Game and a Free Spins feature.
As a fan of retro video games, I’m always glad to see slots that pay tribute to the classic gaming era. Rat King’s graphics are deceptively simple, and the titular character looks great (especially his royal little crown). The presentation might not be to everyone’s taste, but I had fun with it.
The variety of features adds more depth to the game, and the top prize on offer is generous (though the symbol values can be very low for smaller combinations). But overall, Rat King is a fun little slot.
