Temple of Fire is an Aztec-themed slot from IGT, starring the scorching Fire Goddess with an uncanny power to transform adjacent symbols into Wilds. This 5x4 slot takes you inside the eponymous temple to spin the reels and try to line up winning combos across 30 fixed paylines.
Prizes are low generally: there’s a disappointing top payout of just 450x your stake to play for, and the highest-value symbol pays only 300x your bet. Fortunately, Temple of Fire includes an Expanding Wild feature and a Free Spins Bonuswith win multipliers to add more value to the game.

When I loaded up Temple of Fire, I found straightforward and streamlined controls along the bottom of the screen. That makes it easy to dive in right away.
The buttons have a turquoise colour that matches the reels and helps them stand out from the atmospheric background scene. The Spin button is in the bottom-right corner. Tap this to spin the reels manually, or press the small button on its left to open the Auto Spin settings. You can program up to 100 auto spins.
Set up your stake using the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons next to the bet meter. If you want to read the paytable and rules, push the ‘Paytable’ and ‘Game Rules’ buttons at the top of the screen.
Temple of Fire’s symbols impressed me with their variety, detail, and colours. You won’t find any standard royals here, just Aztec-themed relics, masks, paintings, and the stunning Fire Goddess herself.
The low-paying symbols are the gold ring, earrings, bangle, necklace, and gold mask. They award up to 50x your bet.
The monkey, dog, bird, dragon, and leopard paintings pay up to 100x your stake each. The Temple of Fire logo symbol offers up to 100x your bet.
Any combination of Wild symbols, including the standard Wild and components of the stacked Wild, award up to 300x your stake. The Wild symbols substitute for other symbols except the Bonus Scatter, which triggers the Free Spins Bonus.
In Temple of Fire, three or more matching symbols on a payline result in a win. You can build winning combos of up to five symbols, and the Wild symbols can help you by standing in for other paying symbols.
The Fire Goddess Wild symbol and Free Spins Bonus can appear in any position in the base game. When it does, the Wild expands downward and transforms symbols below into other Fire Goddess symbols, substituting for all symbols except the Bonus Scatter.
Any logo Wild symbols that land adjacent to the Fire Goddess symbols, horizontally or vertically, become ignited Wilds. Any other logo Wilds adjacent to those become ignited, too. That can help you form wins right across the reels.
To play the Free Spins Bonus, get three Bonus Scatter symbols on reels 1, 3, and 5 during the base game. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had a choice of three free spins options, each with its win multiplier:
A burning frame surrounds one random reel for each free spin, and that reel transforms into a Fire Goddess symbol.
You can retrigger the feature with the same number of free spins and multiplier if you land another three or more Bonus Scatters on reels 1, 3, and 5. The maximum number of spins available is 600.
The max win in Temple of Fire is disappointing: 450x your bet. That’s unbelievably low, especially when so many other slots offer up to 5,000x your stake and much higher in some cases. Temple of Fire won't work if you’re looking for the biggest payouts you can get.
Temple of Fire's theoretical RTP is 96%, which is the average for slots. On average, it pays out $0.96 for each $1.00 wagered, but that varies—it could be more or less.
The volatility is in the low-medium range, so payouts are generally low but can be regular. For me, cash prizes took a good few spins to appear, but when they did, they were fine. I was pleased to see that the Expanding Wild feature kicked in multiple times. I also triggered the Free Spins Bonus pretty quickly, bringing in some decent payouts overall.
Temple of Fire has a great design. It might look a little bland at first, as the temple's interior seems dark and empty, though the flickering torches on the walls create an eerie atmosphere. But the symbols are well designed, especially the Fire Goddess. She’s a sight to behold in her fabulous headdress and majestic outfit. The game also becomes more enjoyable during the Free Spins Bonus when flames surround the reels.
Temple of Fire’s music works well with the Aztec theme, featuring rhythmic drumbeats and a mysterious air.
You can step into the Temple of Fire for free before you take on the full version of the game with real money. Our demo gives you thousands of virtual credits to play with while you explore the base game, Expanding Wild feature, and Free Spins Bonus. Have fun, and find out if this is the game for you.
Temple of Fire is inspired by Mesoamerican history and culture, just like many other slots. If you like games with an Aztec or Mayan theme, you’ll find plenty of other titles with a similar style.
Aztec Falls, for example, is an Aztec-themed slot with Pachinko-style elements. You can trigger free spins, land sticky stacked Wilds, and play the Coin Drop bonus for a chance to win jackpots.
Rise of Maya offers a max win of 6,000x your stake, Expanding Wilds, a Free Spins feature, and a Scatter Nudge bonus.
While it’s unconnected to the Aztec and Mayan civilizations, Incan Adventure shares visual similarities to the above games. It’s an innovative arcade-style slot that follows a miner digging deep below an Incan temple, discovering prizes as they go.
I enjoyed playing Temple of Fire, mainly thanks to its Expanding Wild feature and the Free Spins Bonus with the choice of three options. You can pick up to 12 free spins depending on the multiplier you want to start with, and the feature may retrigger over and over for potentially hundreds of free chances to win.
The low-medium volatility means Temple of Fire can award prizes often, but the payouts can be tiny, with a max win of 450x your stake.
