In Wolf Hunters, the control buttons have the same striking gothic style as the rest of the game and blend seamlessly with the overall aesthetic. The command panel lies at the bottom of the screen, between the reels and the murky ground.
The buttons are soft green, contrasted with the dark grey background. The spin button is in the middle of the panel. Tap it to spin the reels once.
If you’d like to automate the gameplay for a while instead of using the manual approach (as I did when I tested it), press the autoplay button. You can set up potentially hundreds of automatic spins, but make sure you keep track of your betting.
Press the plus and minus buttons on either side of the “coin value” meter to set up your stake. You can bet from $0.10 to $100.00 on each spin. The “max bet” button instantly boosts your stake to the top value.
Push the blue “+” icon to open the game menu. If you want to browse the paytable, press the “i” button.
I was genuinely impressed by the level of detail in Wolf Hunter’s symbols, especially the werewolf. The four playing card suit symbols pay the lowest prices, and even they have been given a gothic style to fit the theme.
The diamond and clubs pay up to 2.5x your stake, and the spade pays up to 3x. The heart is designed to resemble a bat and pays up to 3.5 your bet.
Moving up the paytable, the silver stake, potion, and mantrap symbols pay up to 7.5x, 10x, and 12.5x your stake, respectively. The werewolf is the top-paying symbol, worth up to 25x your bet.
There’s also a Wild symbol, which substitutes for all standard symbols, and two Bonus symbols: the Hunter and Huntress. They trigger the Free Spins feature.
Winning in Wolf Hunters is the same as in most slots: land three, four, or five matching symbols on any payline. The Wild symbol can make winning slightly more accessible, allowing other symbols to form winning combinations.
Land one or more Wild symbols to win one respin with all Wilds turning sticky (so they stay in place). You'll win more respins if you get more Wild symbols during the respin.
Whenever a werewolf symbol lands, a random Hunter attacks it. That triggers a brief but fun animation showing a confrontation with the werewolf symbol. If the Hunter manages to hit the werewolf, the werewolf becomes a sticky Wild and awards a respin.
But if the werewolf fends the Hunter off, the werewolf remains a standard paying symbol. Each time a Hunter hits the werewolf, the creature’s life decreases by 1, and the Hunter’s Rage increases by 1.
Land Bonus symbols on reels 1 and 5 in the base game to win ten free spins. In this feature, the Hunters have a better chance of winning fights against the werewolf.
Collect three Hunter Bonus symbols in the Free Spins feature to power up the Hunters. When you power the Hunters up, you get two free spins, and every successful hit on the werewolf turns the werewolf symbol into an expanding Wild.
It expands one position to the left for a hit from the Hunter, while a hit from the Huntress expands it one position up and down.
Collect 100 Rage points to fill one of the Hunters’ Rage meters and win 10 Hunter Free Spins with the Hunter powered up. New players receive 20 and 50 Rage points for the Hunter and Huntress, respectively.
If the Hunter and Huntress hit the werewolf enough times, its health will drop to 0. That awards 10 Slayer Free Spins.
All werewolf symbols automatically become expanding Wilds in this feature. The werewolf’s health returns to 600 points after the feature ends.
I was disappointed that Wolf Hunters’ max win is just 3,000 your bet. That’s not too bad, especially for a medium-volatility slot, but the game gets so much else right that I’d like to see the highest payout be a little higher.
Wolf Hunters has a 96.30% RTP, higher than the 96% average for a slot. That means the return from your betting overall can be better than average, but returns can vary wildly.
When I played Wolf Hunters, payouts came as regularly as I expected based on its medium volatility. But as the symbol values are so low, it’s no surprise that most payouts were small.
I had a great time with Wolf Hunters, and the excellent visuals played a considerable part in that. It nails the gothic, Victorian-era horror style.
The game occurs in an atmospheric town under a dark sky and a full moon. The level of detail is incredible, from the Gothic architecture to the intricate werewolf statue above the reels.
It opens with an impressive storybook-style animated scene that introduces the story and characters. The animations that trigger whenever the Hunters attack the werewolf are fantastic, too. The music also has a moody and mysterious feel that works brilliantly.

If you like the look of Wolf Hunters, you can find a wide range of horror-themed slots featuring werewolves, zombies, and other classic creatures or monsters.
One popular option is Zombies by NetEnt. This boasts brains aplenty, stacked Wilds, and a zombie-blasting bonus feature.
Creature from the Black Lagoon (also by NetEnt) is based on the beloved Universal Monster. It offers wins of up to 1,250x your stake, sticky Wilds, and free spins.
Immortal Romance Mega Moolah is a vampire slot with progressive jackpots up for grabs, multiple free spins features to unlock, and stacked Wilds.
Wolf Hunters is a stunning Yggdrasil Gaming slot with outstanding presentation and great bonus features. You can trigger three types of free spins rounds, and upgrading the Hunters can award expanding Wilds to help you win.
However, the symbol values are low, and the max win, at 3,000x your stake, could be more significant. Bear that in mind before you play the game with real money. I recommend trying the free demo to test the risk-free volatility and features.
